An Attempt at Depicting Seemingly Empty Portions of Time
(exhibition of photographs)

The series of photographs explores the grey vague moments of waiting, at first sight equaling lost time, while they are actually full of associative visual stimuli and the related considerations. Just like a bundle of various waitings shares a recurrent theme, this collection of photographs is also an attempt at establishing a mood leitmotif, hoping that simple images will remind the viewer of their subjective experience of waiting. After all, these are rare occasions when we can let ourselves be completely absorbed in seeming hibernation, which conceals deep unmotivated contemplation and rummage in remote parts of memory, often stimulated by a completely mundane object or event.

Based in Bled, Jaka Bulc is currently completing his master’s degree. He is also active as a music journalist at Radio Študent and publishing his articles in other publications. Nuances of Waiting is his second solo exhibition of photographs. Last year he participated in the open call exhibition Different Worlds: Young Contemporary Photography, where he was awarded the third prize. He loves Neil Young, Triglav National Park and Saturday basketball sessions.
