Yann Tiersen

The author of the legendary Amélie soundtrack in live concert in Ljubljana for the first time!

Yann Tiersen, one of the most famous French musicians of his generation, is particularly renowned and celebrated globally as a film composer. A virtuoso of several music instruments (as was proven by his soundtracks for the films Amélie Poulain and Good Bye, Lenin!), and an accordion and violin magician, Tiersen will be stopping in Kino Šiška on Friday 3rd December on his path of exploring the rock music within his current album Dust Lane. Appearing as support act will be the new heroes of Berlin off-scene Lonski & Classen, whose music is best described as alternative guitar pop in the direction of Radiohead and Sea and Cake.

At home, Yann Tiersen already attracted attention with his early studio albums La Valse des monstres, Rue des cascades and Le phare. However, wide international recognition came after he composed the original soundtrack for Amélie. Despite the classical training in his formative years, his main interest while growing up was alternative rock. Yann honed his musical skills playing with several different bands on the local rock scene around Rennes, the cultural capital of Brittany. Meanwhile, he turned his hand to composing, writing soundtracks for short films and musical accompaniment for plays. First and foremost, his eclectic modern classical music that integrates French folk music, chanson, waltz and street music as well as rock, avant-garde and classical and minimalist influences charmed the audiences at his life performances, whether solo or with band. It was his independent position as well as emotional and inspirational approach to music, freed of all genre constraints, that fed his further albums (e.g. the soundtracks “Good Bye, Lenin!” and “Tabarly” and predominantly pop-oriented studio albums “L'Absente” and “Les Retrouvailles”), as well as live performances and collaborations with several renowned guests (Stuart Staples, Jane Birkin, Dominique A, Lisa Germano, Neil Hanon, Shannon Wright, This Immortal Coil, Matt Elliott (Third Eye Foundation), Orka, Deadverse / Dälek and alike).
His latest album Dust Lane, to be released in October on Mute, again pushes the hermetically closed borders between music genres. However, while passing various genres, Tiersen this time surrenders to the melody of the guitar and the sound of rock.

At the upcoming tour, pure eclectic pleasures will be ensured by Yann Tiersen in collaboration with the French-British band: Stephane Bouvier (bass), Christine Ott (ondes martenot), Matt Elliott / Third Eye Foundation (guitar), Dave Collingwood (drums) & Robin Allender / Gravenhurst (guitar).
