LIVING COLOUR – band:
Vernon Reid – guitars, laptop
Corey Glover – vocal
Doug Wimbish – electric bass
Will Calhoun – drums
Living Colour – the band whose sharp funk-rock crossover together with Faith No More, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane’s Addiction provided the fundamental soundtrack to the 1980's and early 1990's – is again coming for a visit within their promotional tour for the recently released fifth studio album.
Following the legendary trio of albums Vivid (1988), Time’s Up (1990) and Stain (1992), Vernon Reid dissolved the band in 1994. The members went separate ways, but continued to meet in numerous jazz, rock, funk and experimental projects (solo projects, Headfake, Family Stand, The Yohimbe Brothers, Little Axe…), yet their pioneer achievements led to new sprouts of hybrid rock that ruled the mid 1990's (Rage Against The Machine, Skunk Anansie, The Deftones, Tool…).
As the new millennium broke, a new chapter began for Living Colour who started anew in 2003 by releasing their fourth album, Collidescope, and embarking on energetic concert touring.
On 15 September this year, their much-expected new album THE CHAIR IN THE DOORWAY was unveiled. It is their first truly conceptual album, which had taken the band four years to develop. On it, Reid, Glover, Calhoun and Wimbish draw on creative inspirations from the past and future, from the front and the back, from the left and the right, which results in a product addressing both their loyal fans from the 1980's as well as those seeking new innovations in rock. Reid's innovation on guitar cannot be missed, which also holds for Glover's vocal expression and the sharp funky sound of the rhythm provided by Calhoun-Wimbish.
Living Colour are old-timers, legends, yet they are not coming to sell their old fame but the new creative fruit of their old mighty roots.
