Filip Robar Dorin studied philosophy and comparative literature at the University of Ljubljana, and graduated in film and TV direction from Columbia College, Chicago. Dorin was a teaching assistant in film direction at Ljubljana Academy of theatre, radio, film and television for several years. In 1980's he established Filmske alternative, the first private production company in Yugoslavia. He headed the Slovenian Film Fund for five years and has been a freelance film artist and writer ever since. He has created around 30 documentaries and feature films as well as 15 documentary portraits on Slovenian artists. His objective is socially, politically and ethically committed film. As a filmmaker, he believes that films should be created on lowest budgets possible. His works have earned him several Slovenian and international awards and prizes, including the grand-prix in Mannheim for Ovni in mamuti and several golden arenas at the Festival of Yugoslav film in Pula. For the film Veter v mreži he was awarded the Prešeren fund prize, the golden arena in Pula and Badjura prize for best film. His TV film Striptih was awarded the viktor prize for the best TV feature film (by Stop magazine), and his documentary feature Maša za moje ustreljene was awarded the audience prize at San Gio' festival in Verona.
