Timeline

There will be regular cinema showings, as well as an exclusive tour of the live version. In this case, the Austrian band Naked Lunch will perform songs they have written for the film live on stage alongside the film’s exhibition. It is a new form of choral music film, in which pop songs take on a level of narration that transforms the inner condition of the protagonists, but also their thoughts and stories, into music and lyrics.
Universalove is a global story about love. Brooklyn, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Belgrade, Marseille and Luxembourg are the locations of the interwoven episodes. Places we know, places we don’t know – full of true and made-up stories about love. Universalove made it’s debut at the Toronto International Filmfestival in 2008, and recived the Max Ophüles Award 2009 for best film. 80 minutes and six intertwined episodes filmed on location in Brooklyn, Rio De Janeiro, Tokyo, Belgrade, Marseille and Luxemburg take the basic idea of combining music and movie as equal artistic means several steps further. Universalove is complex and subtle without losing emotional clarity and unpretentiousness. Here there’s not much dialogue needed to have people speaking their minds. The often touching and hauntingly beautiful songs by Naked Lunch serve as sympathising lightning bulbs exposing inner landscapes complimented by carefully crafted pictures – and vice versa. With Universalove Thomas Woschitz and Naked Lunch excel at developing a new form of music-movie and, even more important, by doing so they share a great story with their audience.
