YOUNGBLOOD BRASS BAND

+ DJ Bakto

The phenomenal American hip-hop Youngblood Brass Band is returning to Šiška, having last shaken our hall with their energetic performance in 2013. This time around, they’re visiting us at their 20th anniversary, spiced up with new songs from an upcoming EP.

The ten-piece Youngblood Brass Band has been flouting convention for two decades now, wonderfully blending the brass band tradition of New Orleans with hip-hop and a punk approach. The group’s 2000 debut already featured hip-hop luminary Talib Kweli, and the band’s fame has grown steadily since – not just due to their original music, packed with jazzy groove, but also due to their reputation as an awesome live band. Their energetic performances are commonly sold out, and they’re regulars at the biggest music festivals in the world – from Glastonbury, Roskilde and Pukkelpop to SXSW, WOMAD and North Sea Jazz.

We’ve had the chance to witness the ensemble’s live excellence first-hand at Šiška twice already, which says a lot – it’s the audience’s excited response and general party atmosphere that are the main reasons we always look forward to a visit by the Youngblood Brass Band. They first charmed us in 2010 alongside Moveknowledgement, then brought along A La Fu three years later. This time, they’re paying us a visit at their 20th anniversary and the accompanying release of previously unpublished songs, rarities and live recordings, 20 Years Young. At the same time, we can also look forward to completely new material from an upcoming EP. There’s more than enough reasons to come out to the gig, so let’s get grooving!

DJ warm-up duties will be handled by Bakto (Tekk Djz, Tetkine Radosti, Jimmy Barka Experience).

Organisation: Kino Šiška.
