NILS FRAHM

For the first time in three years, the Berlin master of contemporary piano music Nils Frahm will again take to stages around the world alone, with one of the first stops on his new tour being Šiška! The acclaimed musician, composer and producer, as well as the founder of the international Piano Day celebration, last visited us in April 2016 with nonkeen. Now, exactly two years later, he will again perform by himself in our Katedrala Hall, surrounded by just his instruments and wonderful melodies.

Nils Frahm, a protégé of famed label Erased Tapes, is regarded as one of the biggest names in contemporary piano music. With his fusion of the centuries-old instrument and modern electronic trends, he enchants both fans of classical music and club night partygoers – among others, he made the latter move at the fantastic Boiler Room opening of Dimensions Festival in the ancient Pula Arena in 2014. His solo discography alone numbers over ten critically acclaimed releases, and he has collaborated with musicians such as Woodkid, Òlafur Arnalds, DJ Koze, Anne Müller and Machinefabriek during his career.

In 2015, Frahm established the international Piano Day, now celebrated annually at Kino Šiška as well – in 2017, we featured Greg Haines and Bowrain, with another of Frahm’s colleagues, Hauschka, visiting Šiška in association with Kataman just one month later.

After a creative break in 2017, Frahm is embarking on the extensive All Melody global tour in 2018, stopping at Kino Šiška along the way. We’re already looking forward to the return of the artist whose work was described by Pitchfork as “mesmerizing and beautiful”!
